Zenith 28800 High Beat, w/ Box, c.1960s
A wonderfully preserved Zenith from the golden era of Swiss watchmaking, powered by the excellent high-beat Calibre 2562PC automatic movement.
What immediately sets this watch apart is its striking case design. The brushed gold filled bezel and angular lug architecture give it a distinctly architectural appearance, perfectly capturing the transition from classic dress watches into the more modern styling of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Combined with the warm cream dial and beautifully faceted applied baton markers, it is a watch that has an incredible presence on the wrist without being oversized.
The dial is immaculate and remains one of the standout features of the watch. The applied horizontal baton markers catch the light beautifully and give the watch a depth and character rarely seen on contemporary pieces. The printing remains crisp throughout, with clean date aperture at 6 o'clock and original Zenith branding.
Inside is the Zenith Calibre 2562PC, a 23-jewel automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Zenith were among the pioneers of high-beat movements and the increased frequency results in an exceptionally smooth sweep of the seconds hand while also contributing to excellent timekeeping performance. The movement presents in exceptionally clean condition and is exactly the sort of quality for which Zenith became renowned.
The watch is accompanied by a period-correct Zenith presentation box and is fitted to a later leather strap.
