Omega, Ref. 2647-2, 1950

£850.00

An exceptionally rare and attractive Omega from the early post-war period, dating to approximately 1950 and powered by the highly regarded manual wind Calibre 420 movement.

The defining feature of this watch is its original honeycomb crosshair dial. Combining a finely textured honeycomb finish with crosshair detailing, applied Omega logo and gilt furniture, it is a configuration seldom encountered today. The dial remains signed "Swiss Made" at 6 o'clock and presents beautifully, offering the sort of originality and character collectors actively seek.

Equally unusual is the case configuration. The stainless steel case is fitted with a solid 9ct gold bezel, creating a striking contrast against the steel mid-case and giving the watch a noticeably more luxurious appearance than standard steel examples. Watches of this reference are rarely encountered with this combination, making it a particularly interesting and desirable piece for Omega collectors. The case is 33mm exc crown.

Inside sits the manually wound Omega Calibre 420, one of the company's most respected post-war movements. The watch has recently been serviced and is currently keeping excellent time. The original inner dust cover remains present, a detail often lost during servicing over the decades and a nice indication of the watch's originality.

The movement serial dates the watch to approximately 1950, while the caseback is correctly signed internally and marked reference 2647-2. The watch is fitted with an unsigned crown and a later brown leather strap which complements the warm tones of the dial and gold bezel perfectly.

Condition is excellent overall, with strong case lines, a crisp dial and only honest signs of age consistent with a well-preserved vintage watch approaching 75 years old.
