Omega Peardrop Lugs, 1939

£850.00

A highly attractive and increasingly hard to find pre-war Omega from 1939, housed in a beautifully proportioned Staybrite steel case with elegant peardrop lugs. Watches from this transitional late 1930s period have a very different feel to later Omegas, still carrying elements of trench watch design, but moving toward the cleaner and more refined aesthetics of the post-war era.

The dial is exceptional. Softly aged silver with bold black Roman numerals, a detailed railway minute track and recessed subsidiary seconds at six. The entire surface has developed a beautiful even patina over the last eight decades, giving it real depth and atmosphere without ever looking tired or over-restored.

What truly separates this watch from most surviving examples is the handset. The oversized open-circle hour hand, appearing to be blued steel, is extraordinarily unusual and gives the watch a huge amount of personality on the wrist. Paired with the elongated spear minute hand, it creates a far more dramatic look than the standard cathedral or feuille handsets usually seen on period Omega watches.

The Staybrite stainless steel case remains in excellent condition overall with strong definition throughout the lugs and bezel. Despite measuring approximately 31mm including crown, the long sculpted peardrop lugs allow it to wear considerably larger and give the watch real elegance on the wrist.

Inside sits its original Omega 15 jewel manual wind movement, freshly serviced and running perfectly. The movement is exceptionally clean and exactly what you would hope to see from a well-preserved pre-war Omega.

The inner caseback retains its original Omega signatures and correct Staybrite markings, while the exterior remains remarkably clean considering the age of the watch.

Fitted on a new military-style NATO strap which surprisingly suits the watch extremely well, giving it a slightly more utilitarian edge while still retaining the elegance of the original design.

A genuinely charismatic and increasingly collectible pre-war Omega with outstanding originality, unusual details and one of the most striking handsets you are likely to find from the period.
