Omega 2576-10, Cal. 342, 1950
A particularly attractive early Omega automatic dating to circa 1950 and powered by the renowned Calibre 342 bumper movement.
Housed in a 34mm stainless steel Staybrite case, this reference captures the understated elegance that made Omega one of the defining watchmakers of the post-war period. The original silver dial has developed a soft, even patina over the decades, giving the watch tremendous warmth and character. Applied Arabic numerals at 12, 2, 4, 8 and 10 combine beautifully with the faceted arrow markers, while the recessed sub-seconds register adds balance and depth to the design.
The original alpha hands remain present and are complemented by the distinctive oversized unsigned crown. The case presents extremely well, retaining strong lines and excellent overall proportions.
Inside is Omega's celebrated Calibre 342 automatic bumper movement. Produced during the earliest years of automatic wristwatch development, bumper movements use a weighted oscillating rotor that rebounds between springs rather than rotating freely through 360 degrees. The result is a fascinating piece of horological history and a movement highly regarded by collectors today. This example has recently been serviced and is running excellently.
The watch is fitted to a later aftermarket leather strap.
