A rare and beautifully preserved Omega reference 2162, dating to approximately 1945 and measuring a compact 30mm excluding the crown.
The watch has a particularly attractive military-style appearance, with a warm patinated cream dial, applied Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and an oversized crown. At just 30mm, the proportions are distinctly of the period and the reference is considerably less commonly encountered than many of Omega’s larger post-war models.
The stainless-steel case is exceptional for its age. The faceted lugs remain beautifully sharp and well defined, retaining the strong original geometry that gives the 2162 much of its character.
The dial remains highly attractive, with honest patination across its surface and strong original printing. Applied numerals give it additional depth, while the small-seconds register at 6 o’clock completes the classic 1940s layout.
Inside is a remarkably clean 15-jewel Omega manual-wind movement. Its serial dates production to circa 1945 and the watch is currently keeping excellent time.
It is fitted to a period-correct Gay Frères Bonklip bracelet, an excellent finishing touch to this unusual wartime-era Omega.
