Rolex Air-King Ref. 5500, 1963

£2,600.00
sold out

A very strong early Air-King, with the stunning sword hands.

The silver sunburst dial is near mint and incredibly well preserved, with the sword handset setting it apart from the usual baton configuration. It changes the feel of the watch completely. All printing is crisp.

Inside is the calibre 1530, the correct Rolex automatic for the period, and running exactly as it should on the timegrapher. Keeping excellent time. The serial dates the watch to 1963.

Case has been sensitively polished and remains very sharp. The lugs still have definition and the watch hasn’t been overworked. It presents perfectly on the wrist. The screwdown crown operates as intended.

On its original Oyster bracelet, which is in exceptional condition. Tight throughout with no sag. The two end links (where the bracelet joins the watch) show substantial internal wear, as pictured, but nothing is particularly visible externally, the first link is just a bit stiff. Replacement end links are easy to come by if that's the new owner's preference - I was happy as they are. Bracelet length is approximately 18cm.

Everything is original.

Early Air-Kings are common enough on paper, but finding one with the right dial, the right hands, and in this sort of condition is a different conversation.

Watch only.
